college decisions

so this week i've been asked a bunch of times by customers if i was in college, then frowned upon a bit for not being enrolled in one, then told i need to go for my own benefit. i'm here to give you an alternative choice, one which i am currently engaged in.

simply decide not to go.

i know this sounds heinous, but hear me out. this statistics website  tells of the average student debt, which in 2012 stood at over $24,000. honestly, that's more than i've ever made working (i have only had part time jobs), but personally i would rather be trying to get that money for myself instead of trying to pay back someone else.

there's something else no one tells you about going to college. it is not a guarantee of a future job. you are putting yourself thousands of dollars in debt (if you don't have rich parents or a scholarship)  in order to have a potential job. and in the meantime after graduating, you're most likely going to be living at your parents' house (same if you decide not to go) until you find a decent place to work, which will most likely have nothing to do with your degree, but will be convenient at the time.

so... what does this all mean? choose wisely. i'm a bit miserable doing customer service jobs, and sort of wish i'd learned a trade after high school (such as painting or teaching art classes). it's up to you, though, which direction your life will start out at after graduation. make sure to talk it over with your parents, they might have good advice.

another topic next week. maybe shopping. i dunno.
